Mountain Desert Sage, Rose Sage
Rose Sage is a 3 foot tall shrub with attractive blue flowers in showy purple bracts. This sage is similar to S. dorrii which occurs in juniper woodlands. Salvia pachyphylla needs no summer water and excellent drainage. It likes full sun and sandy soil. In a garden Rose Sage likes bare ground and no weeds. Deer don't seem to like it much. Rose Sage has silver foliage and is evergreen. Butterflies and hummingbirds like Rose Sage.
