Low shrub, 1 m tall, profusely branched. Flowers white, immature fruits ovoid, 1 cm long, turning black then red when ripe. Fruits extremely piquant.

Locality: Distrito Pedro P. Pena, Picada 500, 92 km W of Transchaco highway at Mariscal Estigarribia. Habitat: Secondary vegetation along roadside. Latitude: 21 deg. 50 min. 32 sec. South (-21.842), Longitude: 062 deg. 19 min. 21 sec. West (-62.323) (GPS coordinates). Elevation: 300 meters Comment: Herbarium specimens and several hundred seeds collected.
